- [emaciation-thirst] 中医指以多饮、多食、多尿、消瘦为特征的病症。 肥者令人内热，甘者令人中满，故其气上溢，转为消渴。——《素问·奇病论》

国语辞典中医上指口渴饮水多而小便多。即今之糖尿病。《梁书．卷三三．王僧儒传》：「吾无昔人之才而有其病，癫眩屡动，消渴频增。」《聊斋志异．卷二．阿宝》：「生忽病消渴，卒。」也称为「糖尿病」、「渴病」。
