國語辭典比喻女子出嫁後，不論丈夫好壞，都要隨遇而安，從一而終。《初刻拍案驚奇．卷三八》：「常言道：『嫁雞隨雞，嫁狗隨狗。』一車骨頭半車肉，都屬了劉家，怎麼叫我做『李媽媽』？」《紅樓夢．第八一回》：「你難道沒聽見人說：『嫁雞隨雞，嫁狗隨狗。』那裡個個都像你大姐姐做娘娘呢？」也作「嫁雞逐雞」。
