[the middle ancient times (the Chinese history,from the 3rd to 9th century)] 較晚的古代,在我國多指魏晉南北朝隋唐這個時期,即3世紀到9世紀
中古之世。(此指虞夏時期。)——《韓非子·五蠹》

國語辭典上古之後，近代之前的時代。其說不一，多指中國自秦漢至唐宋，歐洲自西羅馬帝國 滅亡至哥倫布發現新大陸的時期。
